Lundin Mining Corporation is a diversified Canadian base metals mining company with operations in Chile, USA, Portugal, Sweden and Spain. At the end of 2014, Lundin Mining had approximately 3,300 employees and 4,600 contractors.
Lundin Mining also holds 24 percent equity stakes in both the world-class Tenke Fungurume copper/cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Freeport Cobalt operations, including a cobalt refinery in Kokkola, Finland.
Prizma, an AccountAbility licensed assurance provider, was commissioned by Lundin Mining to conduct an independent third party assurance engagement in relation to the sustainability information in its 2014 sustainability report. This assurance engagement was performed in accordance with AccountAbility’s AA1000AS (2008) standard and was conducted to meet the AA1000AS Type II moderate level requirements.
Prizma’s assurance methodology included:
- Interviews with relevant functional managers
- Site visit to Lundin Mining’s operation in Portugal
- Reporting assurance observations to management to facilitate corrective action
- Assessing the presentation of information relevant to the scope of work in the sustainability report
Prizma’s engagement was concluded with the presentation of Prizma’s opinion, observations and recommendations. Lundin Mining’s sustainability report, which contains Prizma’s assurance opinion, can be accessed here.
Prizma was also re-engaged to provide an independent third party assurance services to Lundin Mining in relation to the sustainability information in its 2015 sustainability report.
