Dr. Denes Bulkai, Senior Environmental & Social Expert
Denes has over 35 years of professional experience in environmental and social due diligence, energy efficiency projects and feasibility studies. This includes serving 17 years as a Senior Environmental Advisor at the EBRD in London.
Before joining the EBRD, Denes gained experience in developing and implementing over 100 projects in Eastern and Central Europe and worked with UNIDO in China, India and Jamaica, and with the World Bank on energy efficiency projects in Central Europe. His key areas of expertise include metallurgical industries (aluminum, iron and steel), and other process industries (cement, glass, fertilizer, petrochemicals).
Denes’ recent experiences include ESIA gap analysis of the Nabucco Gas Pipeline for EIB, EBRD and IFC, and serving as an environmental and social due diligence consultant on several EBRD, EIB and IFC projects in Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, and Serbia, and as a UNDP consultant in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Denes is president (elect) of ArchEnerg Cluster, comprising 85 renewable energy engineering companies. Denes is a Chemical Engineer with a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, a British and Hungarian citizen, and resides in Hungary.
